8 GPS Trackers a Small Business Can Buy Without a Procurement Process

Almost every serious tracking vendor answers the price question with a demo request. For a business with five vans and no procurement department, that is not a sales process, it is a barrier. Of seven fleet platforms we checked on 18 September 2026, only One Step GPS published a rate on its own site, in a market measured in billions of dollars.

So this list is built on one rule: the price has to be public. Everything below can be costed, ordered and fitted without a phone call, and every figure comes from the vendor’s own page on that date.

The trap at this size is not picking a weak product. It is committing to a term, a per-seat platform or a real-time update tier that a five-vehicle operation will never use, and discovering in month eight that the bill is triple what was budgeted.

Three Mistakes That Cost Small Fleets Money

1. Signing a term. A five-vehicle business can be a nine-vehicle business or a three-vehicle business inside a year. Every product here is month to month for a reason, and a multi-year agreement removes the one advantage small operations have.
2. Buying the fastest update tier. On the vendors that publish a ladder, three-second updates cost up to 150 percent more than three-minute updates for the same hardware. Dispatch at this scale checks a few times a day.
3. Forgetting the trailer. Vans get tracked because they are easy. The plant, the trailer and the tool store are usually where the losses are, and they need a different device with a multi-year battery.

The Cheapest Way to Start

One Step GPS at $13.95 a month with the hardware included is the lowest year-one figure here at $167.40 per unit, with no contract and no cancellation fee. It also covers plug-in, hardwired, battery and solar devices on the same rate, so vans, a trailer and a piece of plant all sit in one account.

Spytec’s OBD tracker undercuts it on the prepaid annual at $107.40 with free hardware, which is the cheapest single-unit figure we found anywhere. Both are loans: cancel and the device goes back.

The Cheapest Way to Own Something

Tracki Pro at $28.99 with plans advertised from $9.95 a month is the lowest purchase price with a real cellular radio, and its 10,000 mAh cell is rated two to twelve months per charge. The plan table is not on the product page, so treat $9.95 as a floor.

LandAirSea at $29.95 is the same idea with far more published detail: a six-row plan ladder, IP67, over 155 countries of coverage, and an unconditional lifetime warranty on defective devices. Logistimatics at $64.99 is the most expensive to buy and includes the clearest inclusions list, with 90 days of location history, unlimited alerts and additional users at no extra cost.

The One That Changes the Billing Model

Vyncs bundles the SIM, one year of data and one year of service into the purchase and states there is no monthly fee on its 4G+ plans. No dollar figure appears on its homepage, so the table leaves those cells blank rather than guessing.

It is worth understanding what the trade is. Reporting samples every sixty seconds and transmits every three minutes on the standard tiers, and year two needs renewing, so the no-fee framing describes a prepaid year rather than a free product.

Check Who Is Allowed to Log In

This is the specification small businesses skip and then hit hardest. If the owner, a supervisor and whoever answers the phone all need to see the map, a per-seat platform turns a $13.95 device into a much larger number.

Logistimatics publishes this explicitly, listing additional users at no extra cost alongside 90 days of history and unlimited configurable alerts. Ask the same question of any vendor before comparing monthly rates, along with how long the history is kept, because a 30-day retention cannot answer a question an insurer asks in month two.

Buy One, Run It for a Month, Then Scale

Every product here is month to month, so the sensible move is to buy a single unit at the monthly rate, fit it to the vehicle or asset you care most about, and run it for a full billing cycle before doing anything else. That surfaces the things a spec sheet cannot: whether the app suits the people who will use it, whether the reporting interval is right, and whether the device survives where you put it.
